Following on from our parent survey at the end of Autumn 2, we will be starting a new and improved homework programme this term which we hope will enable year 1 pupils to focus on developing their fundamental English skills using a little and often approach. We have stripped out a lot of the previous homework tasks to focus on the skills which are most important for pupils and hopefully these new expectations will give them more time to do this.
All children will be expected to now read at least 4 times a week during their spare time. All children that meet this expectation weekly will receive a golden ticket for a class prize draw each term for a book voucher. Alongside this, your child will be asked to practise the tricky ‘red words’ that align with their current phonics work. These words will be sent home in a bookmark form. The children can use their homework book to practise these. As we know that the bookmarks are likely to be misplaced or lost, we have attached a document with all the bookmarks for your reference. Happy spelling!
We have attached a copy of your child’s year group overview for the year as we are aware that some pupils may wish to complete independent work at home to support their in class studies further. The overview will provide you with a stimulus for independent research. We are also delighted to see pupils continuing to develop their love for learning at home and they can use this book to display any work of this nature. Please remember to bring it into school to share with your class teacher so they can celebrate your child’s achievements and reward their efforts.
