A warm welcome to class 5B from Mr Griffiths, Mrs Brown, Mrs Cairns and Mrs Boseley. We are extremely excited for the year ahead of us, full of lots of fun and challenging learning opportunities.
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break!
If you have be tested positive for Covid, please find all the home learning on the google classroom from now on. If you are waiting on a PCR test, there are three days worth of work on the school website under 'home-learning'. Please complete the amount of days you have been off for and send your work via google classroom or email the school admin for marking.
Our PE days are every Wednesday and Friday. Please remember to dress warm when coming to school in PE kit - consider wearing jogging bottoms instead of shorts and a sweatshirt over your kit as both our PE lessons are taking place outdoors this term
Note about Homework Expectations.
Due to the changes to homework across the school, pupils in Year 5 will no longer be expected to complete a list of activities from a homework menu or log into MyMaths to complete their half termly maths homework. Instead, all pupils will now be required to complete three pieces of weekly homework: spellings, reading and times tables revision.
As always, pupils who want to go above and beyond can share their work at any point or challenge themselves to apply something they've learned in school with their teacher and transfer it at home independently. For example, showing how to calculate area and perimeter, writing a short story or revising grammar taught at school or even research a topic that has interested them based on our classroom studies, like history or science! While this is not compulsory, we strongly encourage children to extend themselves at home as this is the best demonstration that they have perfected what has been taught in school.
By Friday, pupils must have read 4 times a week and logged this in their diaries - these must also be signed by a parent beforehand. While pupils are changing their books independently now, we ask parents to monitor their colour levels at home to ensure they are reading at the correct level as indicated by the colour sticker on the spine of their reading diaries.
Please note that while we accept any form of reading (for example, library books or books from home), we can only reassess and move pupils onto the next colour band if they are consistently reading books from their current colour band.
Each week, children will be sent home the weekly spellings as before however these will now be stuck into their homework books. We ask that pupils show their revision of these weekly spellings in their homework books and return them to us by Friday to send our the new spelling set. You can find additional copies of the spellings here on the website and on our Google Classroom.
Times Table tests completed in school will now return home each Friday and we encourage pupils to revise their current set of tables (as indicated by their test papers) by either using TTRockstars or revising with an adult in their homework books.
