Homework
Pupils in Foundation are expected to read their phonics book to an adult at least four times each week. If your child is finding it difficult, please talk to their class teacher.
Reading
Please log all of your child’s reading experiences in their reading diary. This could be them reading to you or you enjoying a book together. Click on the link below for a parents' guide to phonics.
Tapestry
Families are encouraged to share their learning at home with school using Tapestry, an online portal. Class teachers upload pupil achievements and work in school regularly. Click on the link below to log on to Tapestry.

Curriculum information
Wavendon Gate School’s EYFS curriculum builds the knowledge and skills children need for future learning. In Foundation, it is shaped by the EYFS statutory framework and its seven areas of learning, with learning carefully planned and sequenced so children make progress over time. This provides the foundations for the subjects and learning they will meet as they move through school.
Our values are woven into curriculum teaching. Each half term, we focus on a different value – Respect, Kindness, Honesty, Courtesy, Self-belief and Growth – giving children regular opportunities to understand and practise it through their learning and relationships. Together, our curriculum and values bring our vision, We Grow Success, to life.

Baseline assessment information
What is the Reception Baseline Assessment?
The Reception Baseline Assessment is a statutory assessment that all schools are required to perform with pupils within the first six weeks of them starting Foundation. It is a standardised assessment that assesses pupils' language, communication, literacy and mathematics skills.
How is the assessment carried out?
The assessment takes roughly 20 minutes to complete with each child and is carried out with a trained member of staff. The children are given tasks to complete using practical resources that the child can manipulate. The assessment is carried out on a 1:1 basis.
How are the assessments used?
The assessments are not designed to label or track individual pupils. The data that the assessments collect creates a school-level progress measure which will show the progress pupils make from Foundation until the end of Key Stage 2. Teachers will receive a series of short, narrative statements that tell them how their pupils performed in the assessment. These can be used to inform teaching within the first term.
Where can I find out more information?
